| I naturally have light red hair but i think raven black hair is so beautiful and exotic. I have used red henna for over 10yrs until for the first time I decided to use a chemical dye to get jet black hair. I love having black hair but now I'm married and having babies and I don't want to expose any chemicals to my children when I'm pregnant like I am now. I did research on ways to dye my hair black without chemicals and I tried vegetable dyes but they wash out so fast my hair looks dingy in color. I recently heard of henna and indigo mix so I called two popular henna companies, Rainbow Henna and Light Mountain Henna as well as a local henna artist. All three said that with hair light my natural color is the henna indigo will only give me a washed out blackish color nothing like jet black. So I;m a little confused because there are sites that show women that have done indigo and get very black hair. My roots are already showing so I need to decide what next step I should take, if that means going back to red or actually being able to have my dream black hair still lol. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you. |

I have medium brown hair and have gotten really close to black using henna and indigo. You MUST have real henna, not the Light Mountain or Rainbow stuff called "henna". I recommend you buy body art quality (BAQ) henna from one of the suppliers on our list on the home page as that will give you the best color.
To get black, you need a two step process. First henna your hair (search this forum for advice on that...there are many posts about that) with BAQ henna, leaving it on at least 2 hours. Then within a week or so, do henna + indigo or "henndigo" (again instructions are all over this hair forum). Indigo doesn't stick very well to unhennaed hair. You need to have a base of henna for the indigo to stick to which is why you do the first round with just henna. Also it doesn't stay in the hair like henna so you may have to redo the henndigo every 3-4 weeks to keep the black color.
To ensure you get a really dark color, I recommend hennaing your hair a few times, maybe once a week for a month and then doing the henndigo. I also recommend not shampooing your hair for at least 24 hours after the henndigo application.
Let us know how it goes! _________________ KENZI
